  1. i think that this year has been going okay. I wish it was going better but I am trying to help it get better slowly. With everything that has been currently going on I am easily overwhelmed. I have been trying to manage My School work for high school and this class and I have work and cross country, lastly I have just recently broken up with my best friend. all this stuff has been very hard on me and I am able t handle things better, but I am going to try harder. I have found some ways to manage everything but my friend. there are times when I just shut down and cant do anything I cant even move I am numb by all this. I have been trying to work on some ways to help clear my mind and help me focus on my work as much as I can and the important things that will help me succeed. I have been meditating every morning and drinking a cup of tea. another thing that I do is set about an hour to an hour and a half aside at least two or three times night where I study at Starbucks and get my work done and study for tests. these things really have been working for me. my life in academic and work and fitness life is okay but can get better but my social life is lacking and this is mainly what is most distracting to me and hardest thing in my life.

    1. Hello Ashley,

I was upset about my social life when I first started school but then I realized and reminded myself day in and day out why I am in school and what is the purpose of this. It is important to always tell yourself why you are doing this because you might get unmotivated especially when things get tough. I also like going to the library because I have learned that this is the best way to focus and strive within school. I was struggling in the beginning of the semester because I would sit at home for hours on my day off and manage to accomplish nothing productive for school. Now, by going to the library for a couple of hours a day, it has helped me to focus and do all my work.

    2. i agree with you Ashley its not so fun starting out.but college is a great tool to find the career you want and to support your family while gaining your independence.its best to remind your self your there to succeed and make something of yourself.going to the library is a good idea because you won't be distracted by people and the quiet will keep you focused on your work.i think i will even visit the library more.

  2. Hi Ashley,
If you are feeling overwhelmed, it may be helpful to look at all the things you are doing and decide which ones are most important and do them. If is difficult to eliminate some items, but you may feel better and be more productive if you lighten the load. As far as losing a friend, it is painful, but will get better with time. It is important to talk about this issue with someone you trust to be a good listener.

  3. For me this semester has been going really well for me so far. We had a test in my psychology class and I my test score was better than the class average so I am doing really well in that class so far. I also really enjoy that class because I think that it is really interesting to learn about the brain and how it works. Also, I find the different theories on why we do things or the reasons that we do things to be really cool and interesting. Though in my Spanish class I feel as though I could study a little bit more because I am not doing as good on the tests. I figured since I took three years of Spanish in high school that I would have no problem with this class but I am now realizing that I forgot more than I thought and seeing a few things that my teachers did not teach us. Although I am doing decent I would prefer to be doing a little bit better than I am. For the most part I am keeping up in all of my classes and remembering to all of my work. That used to be my biggest problem and I still struggle a little bit with it but I am doing really well so far this semester.

  4. This semester is going all right so far but it’s mainly because it is my first semester of college and I am away from my home. The only challenges that have been going on for me this semester would have to be getting use to the new environment around me and being away from my family and friends. The environment I was used to being around is a lot smaller and quieter then how it is now. Being nine hours away from my friends and family is tough every single day. The way I have been dealing with is slowly but surely. The environment is somewhat adapting to me but it’s going to take a little bit of time. The way I deal with being away from my family and friend’s is communicating with them on a daily basis keeping in touch with them seeing how they are doing. I have yet not to run into any roadblocks so that is a plus side to this whole entire change in my life. I know each day will progressively get better I just have to give it sometime and stick with it. I plan on getting pass any roadblocks that come to me this year as fast as possible so I can enjoy my first experience being away from home and to enjoy this whole college experiences.

  5. So far I would have to say that the semester is going well for me. In my high school classes I have 4 A’s and one B. The B is in physics and it is a high B so I hope to have it up to an A after the next test in that class. As for the two classes I am taking here at Cuyamaca I am fortunate to have A’s in both of these. So far all of my classes are very interesting and because of this it is easy for me to pay attention in class and that is probably why I am doing so well. Believe it or not I am even enjoying my English class this year because we are learning how to write resume’s and get prepared for interviews so it is something that will help me in the future to get a job. Also in history we are learning about economics so again it is interesting and not that boring, like World History that we had to sit through freshman and sophomore. I am positive that this year will be a success for me. I am getting a lot of email from different colleges so I am starting to apply to them to see where I stand. I am totally not ruling out staying here at Cuyamaca to finish up my pre-requisite classes and then transfer/apply to UCSD because deep down I believe that is where my heart is to go there. I would like to also throw the discus there so depending on how I do in Track and Field may be the determining factor of whether I go there as a freshman or a junior. My distances have to be high enough for them to consider me but as soon as football is over I am going to start training with a coach to get those marks up. I would not say that I am facing any roadblocks at the moment. I need to finish the college applications but I know that I have options here at Cuyamaca and as of right now I am ahead of the game. I want to take the SAT and ACT test one more time but again if my scores don’t come back high enough to get into a 4 year college as a freshman I am confident I will get into my school of choice as a transfer/junior student. I believe that everything happens for a reason and there is no reason to stress over what we have no control over.

  6. I went assist.org after being introduced to this site from a counselor as well has my older sister. It is a very interesting and useful site. You can plug in your major and the junior/community college you are at and then the four year university you want to attend. It provides you the equivalent classes you need to take at the junior college that will transfer over for the major you want. If there is no equivalent then you will have to take it at the four year university. This is useful because it helps students plan their classes so that they are not taking any unnecessary classes. It is straight forward and spells everything out for you. It is also very useful because students can take many classes for their major at the community college where the cost is cheaper, class sizes most likely are smaller and you may have an easier chance of getting into the class. I don’t think student realize that they can do so much at a community college to get ahead. There are so many classes that are transferable for your degree that can be taken at the community college so that when you finally do transfer you may be able to have a lighter case load because you can get so many classes completed ahead of time.

  7. For me this semester has really been eye opening. Since I am currently only enrolled in AP classes at my high school, I am starting to get a feel for what it will be like being a full time student in college. At times it is very challenging trying to get all of my homework done and study on top of that and also try to devote time into basketball as well. When things start to get hectic I just remind myself what all my hard work is leading up to. If I pass all my AP tests this year and complete this class I will have enough credits to be a sophomore when I start college, so I have to keep this goal in mind. When I am feeling stressed I also remind myself of all the money that I will save my parents by passing my classes and the AP tests in May, and since I am a twin, I worry about the financial burden that my sister and I will be putting on my parents. This semester has taught me that school may be challenging but it is doable. I know that if I want to be salutatorian I have to put my school work first and that the outcome of all this work will be much greater than the times I was frustrated, the times I felt like giving up, and the times when I had to sacrifice doing something I want to do for something that I know I have to do.

  8. This is my first year in college and first year taking classes that are online. So in the being when I started taking this class it was hard, but then every time I used it I was getting used to it but it’s still hard though. So far this semester is going okay for me because I have other classes too that I have to pass and do good at. But I’m working really hard to do all of my homework’s and pass all of my classes. I’m facing little challenges day after day, but I’m learning from these challenges every day. If I want to pass all of my classes and achieve all of my dreams then I have to work really hard to achieve these things. First if I have homework then I have to finish it in time so that I can do other homework. But if I stay on the last day and do homework then not you can’t do good on your homework, but also you gonna learn from the idea that you will do all of your homework’s and the last day and you gonna fell all of your classes. But if you want to reach and achieve your dream then you have to work really hard to achieve them.

  9. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This is my first semester taking almost all online classes and It is going pretty smoothly for me. The only disadvantage that I have is online classes give me a better reason to procrastinate. Some of my challenges this semester is working this full time job I am at. The problem with my job is that we have many events every year and they seem to fall on the days I have class. It gets pretty challenging when you have a Job that needs to be done as well as homework that needs to be done. So sometimes I just fall right in the middle. Also my job description requires me to travel quite often and that also gives me that roadblock to show up to class and do my homework. Another road block is the process of me getting hired on to SDPD. If i do end up getting hired on in a month or two i will not be able to finish this fall semester due to the academy. That is why I am thinking very hard on if I should follow through with it or wait until the semester is done.

  10. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This is my first semester in college. I graduated from High school about 4 months ago and I can honestly say that this semester is a bit easier than most of my High School semesters simply due to the fact that I have so much freedom to work on things and am not rushed to finish work because I have the same class the next day. Now that I have classes every other day and one class is online, I have a lot of time to work on my homework so I don't have to worry about quality anymore. One largely important challenge that I am facing is the fact that I have so much time to work, so it is very easy for me to procrastinate. I deal with my procrastination by trying to remember to start my work as soon as possible when I get home from school, that way I don't have to worry about how long I have to work on it. I have been able to deal with it very well and haven't had much issues. I have noticed that work might be an issue later on if I take more classes that require more work done at home, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

    1. Hello Martin,

Thank you for your post. It is crazy how many people will finish up high school and say that college is easier. I can promise you though, it can get hard depending on your major. It is really about pushing yourself and putting school first for success. I am a person that struggled in the beginning on my online classes but now I have learned how to manage my time and understand the ins and the outs of what I will be doing within this semester. Keep up the great work and just notice what you need to do.

  11. So far, I'm really enjoying my first semester of college. I've definitely grown a lot and been able to nip habits that were setting me back in high-school; I’m managing my time more efficiently. I'm happy that I was able to manipulate my schedule to have classes at times that were convenient for me. I find it more suitable to learn when I'm fully awake, than opposed to how early my high-school classes were. I'm also enjoying not having to go to the same class every single day, so that I can manage when I work on projects and I do not have to rush through so much work within one night. Throughout high-school, I had friends who were really distracting and exhausting because they were always bickering with one another, and creating problems. I'm glad that I was able to let go of the more negative people once I started college because I can focus on my priorities without the emotional distress I experienced during high-school. I have an adequate amount of time to spend with my family, friends, at work, and on school. With as smooth as my schedule is right now, I really hope that next semester will be similar.

    1. Hello Maikayala,

Thank you for your post. I think some people feel that college is a lot easier than high school. It really depends on the person. I think the best part about college is you get to pick the classes you want to take. Even though you have to take a variety of classes, you get to chose how hard or how easy your semester will be. It is always important to manage your time wisely. I think many people do not do this or do not even have money saved aside to purchase book or materials for school.

      Delete
    2. i agree with you maikayla it does depend on the person.college can be simple but you have to stay on top of your assignments.if you had a rough time in high school you may find it difficult in college.you have to manage time well and pick the classes you will enjoy so you will be motivated to get your work done.having money is important its your responsibility as a adult in college.nobody else is going to pay for your books its your responsibility.we have to be independent in college and succeed for our careers.

  12. This semester has been a rough start for me. I will admit, I was not prepared nor did I understand what was due for my classes and when. I did get off on the wrong start. Even though this happened, I did not allow it to stop me from being successful. I think because I take online classes each class has something different on how and where assignments and work must be due. The biggest roadblock I started in the beginning of the semester, I felt so busy. I was focusing on one class and did not really pay attention or care about my other classes. I know had to focus and wrote down everything I need to do for each of my classes. By doing this, this is helping me to be prepared and focused. I think the biggest thing one can do is not let these road blocks get to you This is people's biggest problem. Things might start on a rough patch in the beginning of the semester and they will allow them to get discouraged. The worst thing one can do in college is get discouraged and give up. I told myself I will do this. I had about a couple of days that I was off of work. During this time, I ended up getting ahead in my classes. It is always a great idea to get ahead because it will help you to be prepared for the future.

  13. Getting the chance to go through an interview can be very scary for anyone. If I have a friend going into an interview for a job they really want, I would want them to be prepared for this. It is great for them to have a mock interview with me or someone else. I will also tell my friend to study and learn more about the company. The more one is able to know about the company and what their mission is, it will allow them to be more prepared for success. I also will recommend for my friend to go online and look at interview questions and answers. It is always a good idea to be prepared for those tough interview questions. Overall, the best thing I will tell my friend, you can never be prepared enough for an interview. I will also tell them to make sure they have a conservative business type outfit. Image is everything and if one is not dressed properly, it is not a good sign.

  14. My generation is new millennial. There are many ways that my generation will affect my career choice. One of those ways is the fact that my generation is very proficient in technology which will allow us to grow as a country and even as a world. We have the opportunity to do amazing things in life and create many opportunities for many people such as finding ways to cure diseases and even perhaps ways to help make people not be paralyzed anymore. The opportunities are out there, and I feel that my generation of new millennial has an amazing opportunity to do great for mankind. I want my generation to go down in history as the greatest generation of all time, and because of my generation the world is a much safer, healthier, wealthier, and overall better place. This will affect my career choice because I know what I need to do to ensure that I have a career in something I like, but also in something that is in high demand, such as the field of technology. Since I know that my generation is very technologically advanced, it will allow me to make sure that I do the best that I can to make sure that my generation goes down as the best ever.

  15. I belong to the millenial generation. since I know the overall challenges that my generation are going through counseling if one of the best choices there are for me. I know that there are many homeless teenagers who want to be in college or mistreated children at homes. Our generation is full of negative things such as drug abuse and crime. Counselors at schools are helping more and more to troubled teens and young adults who question to have an education. Older generations have criticized our generation because of the challenge to lack of values and recklessness and that is where counselors come in play to help.

  16. As a college student it is guaranteed that I will face challenges and roadblocks. This is where the phrase "poor college students" fits the college experience. Although not all college students face challenged most do. Lower income students face problems with lunch and gas or even books. The challenge that I've had as a college students is gas and books. I don't know about ya'll but books are very expensive. Last semester I spent 500 dollars on books which I thought was so wrong. This semester I spent 350 dollars which was okay I guess. I believe that books should be cheaper and more accessible because for some students by just being in college on time is a challenge.

    1. I agree with you . College text books are very expensive! Especially for lower-income families or kids straight out of high school . I love books but I do not think i have ever spent that amount of money just for books. I am a single mother and spending $400 in books is just not ok in my book. On the gas issue maybe you can met up with some friends that have the same classes with you and think about car pooling. That why its cheaper on gas for everyone and you could maybe save on a parking permit too.

  17. This semester could be better but its not horrible. This is my first semester at a community college. I have attended vocational schools in the past, these were easy because the curriculum is set up for you. I underestimated how difficult it would be to get into classes and how heavy the world load would be. I got a crappy registration date so I got into some random classes, three are online and online classes require so much more work then on campus classes. My On campus Bioethics class is the easiest class for me right now other then this class just based on the work load. I didn’t really feel prepared for this semester because I didn’t know what to expect, I anticipate next semester to be much better. I am trying to balance school, my two kids and my husband. Its not easy but it is possible. I am defiantly going to prepare myself better next semester. This class has taught me a lot so far that I can use to benefit me in the future mainly with time management.

  18. This semester is teaching me how to live as adult. I Think I could really improve in this semester. The roadblocks I have faced this semester are trying to find time to study while playing soccer and going to school full time. Soccer takes a lot of time out of my days because we practices everyday for two and a half hours. I know if I get more time in everyday of studying that I will make it more of a habit.

  19. Right now college isn't that fun for me because I got a late registration date and didn't get into any classes that I wanted. I've learned to get over things fast and make the most of it. Right now school is pretty stressful. I will get over it soon once I get in the grove. The biggest thing this semester has taught me is to think positive and fight to get though the roadblocks.

    1. I know how frustrating late registration can be. One semester at a time is what I've learned. Struggle through this one right now and eventually you will be given better registration dates. Right on with being able to keep positive even though you're being thrown a curve ball. I know it can be challenging to keep a smile on your face when having to deal with that kind of thing. Everything like this is temporary and school will get easier.. and then it will be done! :) That's definitely something that keeps my head on straight.

  20. This Semester in college is going pretty well for me. Honestly, it was a lot easier than I expected. I only went to a private school before this and did not know what to expect. It is an extremely different environment and it is a different way of life. This is my first semester in college right out of high school and it is flying by. I fits into my schedule really well. I only have to go to the school for two classes two days a week and the other two classes are online. It gives me lots of time for other activities that I have been called to. I am surprised at the knowledge I know. My high school prepared me well for this time in ever persons life. This semester may have been different if I did not know anyone in my classes. I thank the Lord everyday that I get to go to college when I know that others cannot afford it. I do not regret taking any of the classes this semester. I think they will help me with my education and mentally. The hardest part of this semester is finding a quiet place to work on my schoolwork. I do live in a small house of six other people and quiet is not in the house. I do find time here and there and I know that I will finish off this semester successfully.

  21. This semester is going on for me so hard. This is my first semester in college. It is a big difference from being homeschooled in high school and then having a few years off of school . It is a lot of hard work to juggle a family and working full time on top of being a student but I am managing to still thankfully get a's. It can be a little overwhelming at times but if I just remember to do a little bit of homework each day during the week I am finding that I have it all done by the weekend and can have free-time.

I am a part of the Millennial generation. For me this generation represents many different aspects compared to Baby Boomer and Generation X. It is a generation that draws attention to historical events such as school shootings and 9-11. There are many negatives but at the same time so many positives. It has shown that people a part of our generation are very team oriented and are driven to always become better.

This is my second year of college and first semester after going to the University of Colorado at Boulder. I was born and raised in San Diego and decided to go away to college but after suffering an injury and dealing with an immense amount of homesickness I decided it was time to come back home. This has been an awesome decisions and the semester so far has been great. I have always been a person who doesn't look back on their choices and tries to make the best of it and that is what i am doing.

This semester so far has been going as I expected. It is my first semester being full time without working. The adjustment was a struggle. I am use to working full time and taking an online class. I just have to remind myself of the bigger picture. My hardest class so far is calculus. I know going into the class it was going to be hard but I feel like I am starting to get the hang of it. I have been going to the math tutor center for all my hw and it seems to help. I figured doing all my hw in there was better if I was stuck on a problem then at home. For the rest of my classes, I feel like it is your normally lecture, study and test. I cannot believe the semester is almost halfway over already. It really makes me realize these next 3 semesters will go by quickly.

  25. I am choosing to write about how my semester is going so far. This semester is going pretty great for me so far actually. I normally feel overwhelmed with working 5 days a week and going to school but I have finally found a balance in class time and work time. I recently lowered my load from 15 units to 9 while I'm working and my grades are really doing good because of it and I am not going into work stressed and uptight. This is something that has really shown me how I need to handle my time and in the end, know myself and what I can handle successfully.

This semester has been good so far. Iv'e had an easy time transitioning into my new classes and getting used to the new professors as well as all of the new faces. One challenge I have faced so for would have to be time management. It is tough to decide which class is most important to complete if only a small amount of time is given to you to complete your courses. I need to improve the way I manage my time and get all of my classes done on time and correctly. I believe it was the addition of online classes that somewhat threw me off. Its very easy to tune out completely from a class especially if you do not have to physically be there. The best cure for my problem is to prioritize and understand that my school work should come first, besides this I also need to get my work done before and leisure time. I may begin to treat my self with "fun" once all my school work is done, in order to be more organized and have the time to my self only after I have completed my work.

  27. This semester so far has been very stressful and busy. I am the type of person that needs a lot of down time and study time. This semester however I thought it would be a great idea to load my plate as full as possible. I have 6 classes between here and SDSU, job as a life guard, had joined a sorority, volunteered for community service hours and also have a life at home. About four weeks in to school I realized that as much as I really wanted to do all of these things I just physically could not. So I had to sit down and decide what was really important to me and what was not. Although I know I really will regret it, I decided to drop the sorority, which really sucks because I am going to lose a ton of friends in there. However it was just not reasonable for my lifestyle. I also drastically cut down on working hours and decided to not apply to the pool at SDSU where I also wanted to work. Lastly I cut back on all community service hours. I am really hoping that I made the right decisions and everything works out. What keeps me going in school is the fact that there are only a little over two months untill winter vacation. I also really need to focus hard on my 6 classes now because next semester I am trying to apply to start taking upper division classes. I am really excited to be done with school and start focusing on my career. I have made some tough decisions so far this semester and I am really looking forward to winter vacation coming around the corner.

  28. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

Some tips I would give my friend before an interview is to keep calm. I would also tell her or him to not be nervous and babble. Get straight to the point. Do not add extra ideas unless you feel that it will boost your chances of getting the job. Do some research before, such as look up questions and what to wear. Be ready for anything when it comes to an interview. Be confident and be hopeful.

This semester was at first stressful due to complications with my paperwork. Everything was so crazy and unorganized. Also, I have been looking for employment and it's just so hard. After nine long months of searching I finally got hired and this place is too very disorganized. I still have not started my paperwork and it's almost been a month. Stressful. Sometimes it's hard for me to get work done because I'm always doing house duties. Such as cleaning, laundry, taking care of the pets, etc.. It's just a lot of weight on my shoulders. Also, I'm looking  to move out soon with my boyfriend, but jobs don't pay to the cost of living in San Diego. In the beginning of the semester there was a hold on my file for I don't know why and I also was having a hard time with financial aid. I'm slowly getting everything under control and making my life stress free.

This semester is going great! I'm taking 19 units and im loving it! All of my classes are very interesting and i was very fortunate to get a group of teachers who are all awesome. Every day i have school is like another adventure. I have to go back and forth from grossmont to cuyamaca. Along the way i love to stop for some food. The only type of problem i face is multiple exams on the same day. This has already happened, and it is hard to deal with. But i know with preparation and dedication i could easily overcome this and receive good grades.I also have a study buddy who helps me study. 31. This semester so far is going not too good, I always put my training first and my schooling and homework last on my list because in my opinion it’s just boring compared to what I like to do. At the beginning it was rough because I didn’t really get how the whole online system worked, but that’s just my fault for not putting 100% into learning how the blackboard education works. Although I have not been doing so well I feel like I have been going uphill in my battle with procrastination I have been making a conscious effort to study more often and study further away from my deadline. I have missed deadlines and gotten 0’s due to the fact that I have waited to the last possible minute to do my work and then at the last second something will come up that will actually stop me from getting my work done and I end up getting slapped in the face for putting off my school work and I’m starting to change this worthless unproductive habit. I would like to continue my college education due to the fact that perusing a career in martial arts can be ended with 1 wrong move , I think it would be good to have a safety net that can make me a living in case something were to happen. All in all I will improve on my school work and improve my grades and get what needs to be done early.

  32. This semester has been very busy and stressful for me. My work has been extremely busy lately, which has been stressing me out, on top of trying to get my work done for my classes. My work schedule has been very inconvenient because of my classes. I have a late morning class four days a week, so I get to work early, then leave for class, then come back to work, then I have night classes two nights a week. I am very grateful that my work is allowing me to have a flexible enough schedule, but it is really starting to wear me out. I will be very glad once this semester is over. I have still been getting good grades this semester, so I know that I will be able to finish strong. I need to get a little better about not procrastinating, and study every chance I get, that way I can get enough sleep and not stress as much.

  33. 3. My generation is the New Millennial. My best qualities are that i respects my parents values and i am a very happy, confident, and positive person.
The challenge in this generation is the use of technology. This class for example, is all online rather seeing everyone and learning everything in upfront. This generation is all about technology, any iPhone, iPad, in particular. A lot of people use there phones during important moments in life, which is a very difficult challenge for me. It is hard to have conversations with people because they are always on their phone.
    5. The first thing you would have to do for an interview is learn all that you can about the position that you apllied for before you go to the interview, Next, you have to make sure you are ready to talk about how you will be the best person for the job and how will you be a great asset to the company out of all of the others. Then, your apperance is everything. Dress appropriate, smile, and mpst importantly, make eye contact to the interviewer. Next, take your time and relax when answering the questions the interviewer asks. It is important that you do not take too much time thinking before answering. Finally, after the interview, write a thank-you note and express your interest in the job.

  34. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?
The tips I would give to a friend of mine before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important is to dress nice, stay calm and be confident. Usually when people have an interview or anything that to do that is important to them, they tend to get nervous and not really act themselves. It is important to stay calm and just be yourself when being interviewed. I have had experiences in public speaking and I am not the best at them mainly because I get nervous in front of big crowds especially if there is something on the line like my grade or a job. I have gotten better at speaking with experience and have learned if you just relax and speak slowly, everything will be easier and I think the same applies when you are being interviewed for a job. Another tip is to be confident like you know you are going to get the job. Do not go into the interview with any doubt in your mind and act as if you already got the job! Just be confident and do not have fear and everything will be fine.
